SCFP

Yesterday provided a moment for me which was a very powerful, as seeing the efforts of students in the Mississippi Delta to get extra-curricular education at all costs was both uplifting and heartbreaking. The school system is horrifically under-funded in light of the white-segregationist private schools which take priority, and students have little means to better their education in school. We met with students who joined the Sunflower County Freedom Project, a small outlet in the middle of the county which tries to open these students' horizons to advanced learning and new skill sets. In a region like the delta where the human resource is scarce and the surrounding environment is bleak, I found this project to be extremely valuable, and I could not fathom the appalling conditions of these students despite their drive to keep attending. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, check out the website http://sunflowerfreedom.org/ to see what this organization is about and if there is anything that you can do.
