Don't Categorize

After having both Mr. Hinton & Mr. Carrington speak to the group. I was able to connect some of the things they spoke about, though they weren't exactly about the same thing. Mr. Hinton said "you can't hate someone for doing their job" The connection is that Mr. Carrington said "it's not what people represent but what is in their hearts." I have categorized all officers as racist and abusive of their power. I have gotten lost in the media; media portrays police people as white people bringing unnecessary harm to people as apposed to protecting. That is just a job. There are more to people than a career. Sometimes they have to decide whether they want to do the right thing or save their job. They may have families to support. I feel stupid for not realizing this earlier.

  1. Mr. Hinton said "you can't hate someone for doing their job". The connection is that Mr. Carrington said "it's not what people represent but what is in their hearts." I read your two lines, which I have copied and pasted over and underlined above, and this is what I thought. No you can’t hate someone for doing their job, if they are doing their job, not using their job to get the job done (eliminate a race). The other sentence, I think Mr. Carrington is saying; it is the intention that is behind what they are doing it. Not everyone out there is out there to hurt you, but because there are so many, who can you really trust? Don't Categorize, but be careful. You said you felt stupid for the way you felt; never feel that way, which is why we are constantly being educated every day. Like this trip you have earned the right to be on. It is educating you. I have read your blog - Natalie
