I recommend for anyone
visiting Atlanta to go see the Center for Civil and Human Rights. I was not
sure what to expect when visiting with CRT (the chaperons mentioned it was the
first time the tour had gone to the museum) but I could see the museum was going
to be interesting with its sleek contemporary design. The building is beautiful
inside and out, and the exhibit paths reflect both the dark portions and
rewarding parts of the Civil Rights Movement with darkly lit and brightly lit
hallways. The museum is also full of interactive displays and videos covering
not just the movement of the 60s but also worldwide human rights agenda of
today. One thing I found most powerful was at the very entrance of the museum trail;
there was a display of old TV sets playing real footage of white
segregationists spewing hatred. It was an important way to start off the whole
museum experience because it showed how racism is a real living sickness and
how broad inclusive efforts for change are necessary.
